Agriculture Entrance Exam
Agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy. Agriculture constitutes the major portion of Indian economy. Hence there is a need of Agriculture education in India. Agriculture education is needed for the advancement of agriculture, for making better fertilizers for more production, for introducing new techniques for better production etc. Efforts are made in this direction by the Government of India. Indian government has funded lots of colleges to start the Agriculture education in India.
The undergraduate programmes which are available are Agriculture, Fishery, Sericulture, Agricultural Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Forestry, Horticulture, Banking & Co-operation, Dairy Technology, Home Science, and Agricultural Marketing. The PhD programmes which are available are Genetics & Plant Breeding, Horticulture (Floriculture & Landscaping), Agronomy, Extension & Communication, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Seed Science & Technology, Agricultural Chemicals, Soil Science, Botany, Plant Physiology etc.
An entrance exam is conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research for taking admission under the various undergraduate courses. A candidate has to appear in the ICAR exam to get admitted in any of the Agriculture colleges. A candidate is eligible to appear for the entrance exam if he/she is an Indian national. They should have attained a minimum of 17 years of age and should not have crossed a maximum of 23 years of age. They should also have obtained a minimum of 60 % marks in class 12 with English as one of the compulsory subjects
