Nanotechnology Entrance Exam
Nanotechnology is known as the Miniature science and is finding application in more or less every field, from fabrics to medicine. In Greek ‘Nano’ means dwarf and when materials are reduced to nanodimension (1 nanometer=10^-9 metre), they show drastic changes in their Chemical, optical, physical, magnetic, electrical and mechanical properties. These behaviors of materials are used in bioscience, environmental science, medical science, cosmetics, security, electronic and various other fields.
Furthermore, nanomaterials are very strong, light, transparent and thousand times smaller than the human hair’s diameter, which is round about 60 microns. Scientists are of the view that the 21st century will be the nanotechnology century and are estimating that each and every are will be revolutionized by the nanotechnology, be it medicine, engineering, various technological and industrial areas, health, aerospace or any other field. Some of the important landmark breakthroughs achieved with the help of nanotechnology are converting sunlight into power, cleaning ponds, targeting a single malignant cell with a drug, creating biochip sensors which can be inserted in the human body etc.
It is an interdisciplinary subject and combines essentially Chemistry, Physics, bio-technology, Bio-informatics etc. Though this field is in its infancy stage in India, but there are lots of colleges in India which are offering this course.
