Petroleum Engineering Entrance Exam

Petroleum engineering is a discipline of engineering which deals with the subsurface activities which are associated with hydrocarbon’s (either crude oil or natural gas) production. The oil and gas industry has two sectors, upstream and downstream. Production of Hydrocarbons falls under upstream sector and refining and distribution falls under downstream sector.  Petroleum engineering and exploration are the main subsurface disciplines of oil and gas industry.

Petroleum engineers use detailed understanding of the chemical and physical behavior of water, gas and oil at very high pressure within porous rock to estimate the recoverable volume of the hydrocarbons. Petroleum engineering also requires knowledge of other disciplines like petroleum geology, drilling, well engineering, geophysics, reservoir simulation, artificial lift systems, economics, and well logging etc.

There are not many colleges in India which offers Petroleum engineering courses to the students. They are handful of them and they conduct entrance exams for the purpose of admissions under this course. Candidates who get selected in the entrance exam and fulfill all the other eligibility criteria like age, qualification, domicile status (in case of state colleges which offers admission only to the permanent residents) etc. are allowed admission in these colleges.
